I put off going back to Venice for years. Funnily enough, I only live about an hour from the damn place (it's also the capital city of the Veneto region where I'm from), and I have cheap hourly trains, yet I've been there only 2 times in the last 13 years (in 2021, during lockdown, when access was limited to inhabitants of the Veneto region, and last year, when I went to Murano, so not the main Venice islands, to visit a glassware workshop during a work team-bulding event).

I always had a weird love-hate relationship with Venice, I love how it was and looked in mid-20th century movies, before it became a tourist trap, when it was still a dirty, foggy, and scruffy town inhabited by real people.
I was pleasantly surprised, by catching the first morning train (at 5) I arrived in an almost empty town, and in the early hours I saw the remaining real inhabitants of Venice, old ladies going grocery shopping, lots of street sweepers (and I mean lots of them!), distinguished people going out for an early breakfast (the whole place nicely smelled of brioches, like walking into a bakery), before tourist crowds started dominating the place around 9. Went back with the 10:40 train and was at home by noon.

Roll 1 was what I already had in my small Konica, so most of the photos from departure in Rovigo to the arrival in St. Mark's square, and through the trip. Roll 2 starts there, then after finishing it I loaded the Minolta with roll 3, while walking towards the Arsenale. When I got there I loaded roll 4 and changed lens to my 50mm prime, tried first with a CPL that was already on it but then swapped for a yellow filter. I then walked back to St. Lucia station through Cannaregio, to avoid the touristy walkways, stopping at the Jewish Ghetto on the way (did you know that the term ghetto was coined right in Venice?).

Camera: Minolta XD-11, MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 with yellow filter

Film: Agfaphoto APX100 (from a bulk roll), at box speed, developed in Rodinal 1:50, dev time 10:00
