As an introverted dork and occasionally apathetic defeatist, I don't often meddle in social group activities. But when I saw that a lot of my Bluesky timeline was abuzz for something called #FP4party, I thought it would be a nice idea to finally get the only roll of the stuff out of the fridge and finally give it a try, taking it to the seaside where I went to shoot the previous color roll while looking at flamingos.
After some careful consideration I decided my best approach would be best sum up by the words "fuck it", so I opted to just have fun and decided to shoot it in my FED-5v rangefinder camera, aka my "we have Leica at home", which is fun to use and tends to surprisingly produce good images, even though it lacks the comforting flexibility of an SLR.
The FED-5v lacks a lightmeter, in the past I've always used one of the many lightmeter apps on my phone with good success, but a few months ago I decided to invest in a cheap Chinese external lightmeter, one of those little things you put on the flash hot/cold shoe. When it arrived I found out it was underexposing about one stop compared to the phone app, so I adjusted its internal compensation making sure it gave similar readings. I never doubted this and used it a few times without issues.
Then, while shooting this roll, I found out that the phone app suggested about half of the shutter time displayed by the meter, so I had the impression to have severely overexposed a few of the shots, but it doesn't seem the case. Maybe it's because of FP4+ latitude, having never shot it before I didn't know at all how this film stock behaves, though I kind of dig the results. If I weren't trying to save some money in general, I'd already have a bulk roll on order.
I think exp. 1-12 is definitely the money shot, I kind of like it. I quite like 1-02, but sadly I must have scratched it somehow while processing the roll. Also I think I'll play a little contest no one will probably care about/participate on Bluesky, I'll try to see if anyone can tell me what the thing in image 1-24 is, maybe even consider awarding some sort of a prize to whoever gets it. Although in this age of AI I'd hate for someone to just upload the photo to a random chatbot and cheat.
